UPLB holds strategic planning workshop

UPLB officials took a break from doing their work in the University and converged in Subic, a known tourist destination, over the weekend. But it was not a break that was meant for rest and recreation as some breaks are bound to be. Instead, it was a weekend spent on reflecting on and discussing accomplishments and  mapping out priority activities and action plans for 2017.

The UPLB officials, led by Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., held a strategic planning workshop at the Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel in the Subic Freeport Zone on Nov. 11-13. The workshop focused on reviewing the plans drawn up under the 2014-2017 Strategic Plan that is geared towards making UPLB a globally competitive graduate and research university that contributes to national development.

In his opening remarks given on Nov. 12, Chancellor Sanchez enjoined the participants to focus their attention to the values of work and synergy during the workshop, he said “our plan is only as good as the relationships we have formed with one another, relationships that are built on a solid foundation of trust, communication and empathy.”

He also expressed his desire for the University to go far, and in order to do this, for everyone to work together towards honor and excellence. He reminded the participants to put premium on synergy and the on the need to consider the University’s thrust on interdisciplinarity in working together.

The planning workshop was organized into four sessions which tackled the following: a review of the 2014-2017 Strategy, identification of key accomplishments and outputs, processing of these outputs, program prioritization, and action planning.

Vice chancellors, assistant vice chancellors, assistant to the chancellor, deans, directors and heads of administrative offices participated in the workshop. Chris Lomboy, director for markets and enterprise of RARE Phils and UPLB alumnus, who served as facilitator in the 2015 strategic planning workshop served again as facilitator at the Subic workshop. The OC staff, with Aldo Gavril Lim, Pamela Joyce Eleazar and Olga Lomboy, faculty members at the College of Development Communication, assisted in the conduct of the workshop.
