UPLB greets Christmas season with dance, music and lights

Christmas season is here once again and UPLB has prepared well to build up Christmas cheer.

In what had become a tradition before the year wraps up, UPLB and the Los Baños community converged at the Carabao Park to witness as the Christmas tree, the nativity scene, and the “Santa-on-his-sleigh” installation are first lighted up.

The festivities began with the Pasko sa Elbi: Isang Pasasalamat concert at the DL Umali Hall which featured the UPLB Choral Ensemble, the UPLB Filipiniana Dance Troupe, and the UPLB Dancesport Society.

The UPLB Choral Ensemble regaled the audience with sweet and enthusiastic renditions of classic English and Filipino Christmas carols. Some of the songs performed included “Christmas in Our Hearts” by Jose Mari Chan, “Kumukutikutitap” by renowned composer Ryan Cayabyab, and the traditional “Kasadya Ning Takna-a/Ang Pasko ay Sumapit” sung in both Cebuano and Tagalog.

Meanwhile, dance performances by the UPLB Dance Troupe and the UPLB Dancesport Society entertained young people and adults alike with Filipino cultural dances Panderetas and Pastores de Belen and ballroom dances to the music of “Carol of the Bells” and “Sleighride.”

After the concert, students flocked to the Carabao Park for the Christmas Lighting ceremony. The short program was fronted by a song performance by Lore Arellano, a BA Communication Arts student.

In a short message, Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. expressed his hopes that this year’s Christmas village will continue to bring the UPLB Community and the Los Baños community closer by reminding everyone of the importance of family, generosity, and self-improvement.  The program was also attended by UPLB officials.
