All 19 examinees from UPLB passed the 2017 Certificate in Industrial Engineering (CIE) Exam administered on Nov. 26, 2017 and took their oath on Feb. 9, 2018 at the Manila Hotel.

Leading them is first placer Renzo Robert C. Manalo, a cum laude graduate who also topped the UPLB BS Industrial Engineering Class of 2016. He bested more than 900 CIE examinees with a rating of 84.30%.

Joining him in the top ten is UPLB’s Connie Rose P. Baltazar at 7th place with a rating of 80.09%.

CIE, a day-long exam administered annually by the IE Certification Board (IECB) under the supervision of the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers, entitles passers to be included in the ASEAN Registry of Engineers as Associate ASEAN Engineers.

Last year, UPLB also recorded a perfect passing rate in the said exam. This year’s national passing rate is at 56.89%. The UPLB passing rate is based on the Department of Industrial Engineering’s internal tracking as no official passing rate per school is released.

To support its graduates in this undertaking, the Department of Industrial Engineering provided free review sessions – covering lectures and mock exams – every Saturday of August until November 2017. (Angelo Ani)
